Laboratory Facilities

Scanning electron microscope

 

Departmental laboratory facilities include conventional as well as state-of-the-art equipment for the processing, characterization and testing of materials. These include:

 

 

·   X-ray diffractometer (powder/polycrystalline      

     samples, single crystal)

 

·   Scanning electron microscope (SEM) equipped

     with energy dispersive x-ray (EDX)

     spectrometer

 

·   Metallographic facilities (including video projection

     system)

 

·   Mechanical testing facilities (including universal

     testing machine)

 

·   Induction melting, ferrous and non-ferrous foundry

 

·   Heat treatment and surface treatment of materials

     (including conventional and plasma nitriding,

     carburising etc.)

 

·   Facilities for the processing and testing of

     ceramics and refractories

 

·   Facilities for the synthesis of polymers and

     composites and their testing

 

·   Sputter coater

 

·   Fuel testing facilities

 

·   Facilities for chemical analysis of metals, alloys

     and refractories

 

·   Departmental computer facility
