The Department of
Materials and Metallurgical Engineering has been providing testing and
consultancy services to different public and private organizations. A
representative list of consultancy services provided by the department is
given below:
- Evaluation of the cold rolling and annealing
facilities of PHP Steels, Chittagong.
- Metallurgical analysis of failure of wheel hub
of an ATP aircraft of Bangladesh Biman.
- Failure analysis of LP gas turbine blades of
Chittagong Power Plant, Rouzan of the Bangladesh Power Development
Board.
- Consultancy services related to the assessment
of production facilities of a ceramic tiles factory and quality of the
produced tiles given to Islami Bank Bangladesh Ltd.
- Analysis of failure of super-heater tubes of
Natural Gas Fertilizer Factory Limited, Fenchuganj of the Bangladesh
Chemical Industries Corporation.
- Consultancy services on the quality of
galvanized coating provided to Project Office, Meghnaghat of Hyuandai
Engineering and Construction Co. Ltd.
- Investigation into the damage of railway lines
and girder bridges caused by the devastating fire at the Magurchchara
gas well.
- Assessment of tube manufacturing and welding
processes to be used for natural gas pipe lines of Petrobangla.
- Project evaluation of Tiendy Ceramic Industries,
Savar.
- Consultancy and testing services related to
bridge materials of the Roads and Highways Department.
- Metallurgical investigation of the failure of a
gun mounting of Bangladesh Navy.
- Investigation into the causes of failure of
‘Swan Necks’ of railway bogies which caused three accidents of the
Bangladesh Railway.
- Consultancy on the corrosion problems of
over-head steel tanks of the Dhaka WASA.
- Advice on electroplating to the Bangladesh Cycle
Industries, Tejgoan.
- Development of low melting point alloys for use
in the fusible plugs of food grain SILOS in Narayangonj.
- Investigation into the causes of accident of a
fighter aircraft of Bangladesh Air Force.
- Development of replacement materials for
components of injection moulding machine of Bata Shoe Company,
Dhaka.
- Development of indigenous materials for a number
of spares for the Bangladesh Jute Mills Corporation.
- Expert services given to M/S Flux Services on
Radiography.
- Development of replacement materials for
different corroded/eroded spares for the Bangladesh Sugar Mills
Corporation.
