The faculty are committed to teaching, research and public service. A number of faculty hold doctoral degrees in a variety of related fields. The faculty is enriched each year by new regular faculty appointees
as well as return of faculty after completing higher
education and research abroad. This infusion of new
teaching and scholarly talents adds freshness and
vitality to the Department of Mechanical Engineering.

Mechanical engineering department is one of
the oldest, most demanding and attractive
departments of BUET. It is the center of
excellence for the study of mechanical
engineering in Bangladesh. The courses and
syllabi followed by this department are
up-to-date, comparable to those of the best
institutions any where in the world and
justifiably appropriate to the local needs. It
provides excellent technical background in
most of the major branches of mechanical
engineering. The department is persistent in
its effort to improve its research facilities,
staff position, courses and curricula to meet
the growing technical challenges confronting
the country. A mechanical engineer is expected
to take the responsibility of design,
fabrication and installation of industrial and
production plants and of management and
maintenance. We are confident that our
graduates have good foundation of expertise on
- design, testing and handling of wide
verities of mechanical equipments.
