Important initiatives of ITN in the education of environmental engineering are to:

• Improve and increase the teaching of appropriate technologies within existing taught courses throughout Bangladesh through changes in syllabi, development of textbook and the training of teaching staff.
• Improve the availability of high quality teaching materials for trainers and participants.

Over the last five years ITN-Bangladesh and its Sub-Centres have conducted 70 courses and trained 2389 professionals. A gradual change in the strategic approach is evident in the training arena of ITN-Bangladesh. At present more and more importance has been attached to the specialized courses that are organized to address specific needs in the WSS sector. The following specialized courses have been found extremely useful and were appreciated by the recipients of the course, as well as by concerned stakeholders.

• Specialized Course on Water and Wastewater Analysis
• Specialized Course on Arsenic Contamination in Bangladesh
• Specialized Course on Training Skill Development
• Specialized Course on Application on LFA in WSS Development
• Specialized Course on Gender and Participation in WSS perspective
• Specialized Course on Water Safety Plan (WSP)
• Specialized Course on Climate Change

Apart from these, ITN organizes a number of courses in response to expressed needs of the stakeholders.
