Major Past Accomplishments

• Re-oriented environmental engineering curricula and syllabi with emphasis on appropriate low-cost technologies, community participation, socio-economic and gender issues in Water Supply and Sanitation.
• Published a textbook on Water Supply and Sanitation to support the re-oriented curricula and manuals for training in WSS.
•  Conducted more than 110 training courses and trained over 3500 personnel of sector agencies and academic institutions.
• Facilitated 26 WEDC conferences on Water, Sanitation and Hygiene: Challenges of the Millennium.
• BUET-UNU International Workshop on Technologies for Arsenic Removal from Drinking Water (5-7 May 2001).
• Completed 19 research projects on demanding WatSan issues in Bangladesh.
• Drawn up a comprehensive picture of arsenic removal technologies.
• Established national network through 8 ITN sub-centers for expansion of human resource base in WSS.
• Facilitated International Workshop on "Arsenic Mitigation in Bangladesh", (14-16 January 2002).
• Facilitated International Workshop on "Bangladesh Environment 2002" (19-21 December 2002).
