Major Past Accomplishments

• Re-oriented environmental engineering curricula and syllabi with emphasis on appropriate low-cost technologies, community participation, socio-economic and gender issues in Water Supply and Sanitation
• Published a textbook on Water Supply and Sanitation to support the re-oriented curricula and manuals for training in WSS
•  Conducted more than 115 training courses and trained over 3500 personnel of sector agencies and academic institutions
• Facilitated 26 WEDC conferences on Water, Sanitation and Hygiene: Challenges of the Millennium
• BUET-UNU International Workshop on Technologies for Arsenic Removal from Drinking Water (5-7 May 2001)
• Completed 19 research projects on demanding WatSan issues in Bangladesh
• Drawn up a comprehensive picture of arsenic removal technologies
• Established national network through 8 ITN sub-centers for expansion of human resource base in WSS
