Industrial and Production Engineering is an engineering fraternity that is greatly valued internationally. It has been contributing enormously to the improvement of productivity and operations as well as operating conditions of numerous organizations all over the world. Education in IPE incorporates not only basic engineering and technical subjects, but also other relevant fields of study such as humanities, accounting, presentation skills, creativity, team work and business and management skills. In present day industries, these skills are deemed really essential to make an engineer apt to face the challenges of practical scenarios.In most of the cases, an engineering job is not merely an engineering job; it is interlinked with multifaceted variables. An engineer working in a practical situation needs to be well alert, pro-active and fully aware of the surrounding contingencies. That is why, education in IPE can be considered as an embodiment of balanced education.

In Bangladesh, one of the main problems that engineering graduates face while competing with business graduates is the lack of communication skills. At IPE department, we put a heart and soul effort to help our students to be more expressive and communicative. The result of this endeavor becomes evident if we look at the phenomenal capture of the job market by IPE graduates. The graduates of this department are also making their mark and making worthwhile contribution in the industrial sector of Bangladesh. The placement of graduates in the industry has placed this department amongst the top three most chosen departments by the students. About The Department
In Bangladesh, the esteemed arena of Industrial and Production Engineering emanated from BUET in 1981 as a post graduate program. Full fledged undergraduate program started through the establishment of the department of IPE in 1997. The students, teachers and graduates of the department have worked in concert to flourish IPE as a field of great potential. Presently, the department of IPE, BUET, offers both undergraduate and graduate programs in IPE. The graduate programs are offered in two fields- IPE and AEM (Advanced Engineering Management). At present the degrees offered by the department are:

What the department of IPE offers is simply a qualification at its best. The department is rich in resources, including library and laboratories, necessary for the development and nourishment of skills necessary for an engineer working in industrial scenarios. The department also makes a continuous and conscious effort to bridge the gap between the industries of the country and the department. Education in IPE is very much leaned to practical situations and it is not possible to acquire proper knowledge in this field without sufficient exposure to industrial environment. That is why; industrial attachment is taken as a compulsory credit course for the third year students. The relationship of the department with the local industries is further strengthened through various programs such as seminars, conferences and yearly events.
We earnestly emphasize on a healthy and intimate teacher- student relationship so that the true potential of each student is realized and flourished. The students are encouraged to develop themselves through various co-curricular and extra- curricular activities.The department of Industrial and Production Engineering aims not only to produce efficient engineers, but also well educated conscientious leaders who can contribute to the development of the country through ameliorating our industries.
