Award Giving Ceremony for the Chemical Engineers: Academics and Professionals
An Award Giving Ceremony for the Chemical Engineers graduated from the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (NUET) up to 1970, for their significant contribution to chemical education and profession has been organized by the Chemical Engineering Division of the Institute of Engineers', Bangladesh (IEB) in the Seminar Hall of IEB on 12th November, 2008.
Prof. Nazrul Islam, Chairman of University grants Commission was present as the Chief Guest and Prof. Dr. A. M. M. Shafiullah was present as the Special Guest at the ceremony. Prof. Dr. Dil Afroza Begum, Chairman Chemical Engineering Division, IEB, Presided over the ceremony.

Prof. Dr. Iqbal Mahmud, Professor Emeritus, Prof. Nooruddin Ahmed, Prof. Jasimuz Zaman, Dr. M. Serajul Islma, Prof. M. Nurul Islam, Prof. A. K. M. A. Quader, Prof. M. Sabder Ali have been honoured for thier significant contribution to chemical engineering education in Bangladesh. On the other hand, Engr. S. M. Nuruz Zaman, Ex-Chairman of Food and Sugar Industries Corporation, Dr. M. Waliuzzaman, Ex-Chairman of BCSIR, and Engr. Hasanul Morshed, Ex-Chairman of BCIC, have been honored for their significant contribution to chemical engineering profession in bangladesh.
Award Giving Ceremony for the Chemical Engineers: Entrepreneurs
An award Giving Ceremony for the Chemical Engineers, Pioneers in Establishing the Chemical Process Industries in Bangladesh was organized by the Chemical Engineering Division on Institute of Engineers', Bangladesh on 5th November 2008.
Dr. M. Tamim, Special Assistant to the Honorable Chief Adviser, was present as the special Guest and Md. Mohsin Ali, President incharge of IEB, was present as the Guest of Honor at the Ceremony. Prof. Dr. Dil Afroza Begum, Chairman Chemical Engineering Division, IEB, presided over the ceremony.
Engr. Rashed Maksud Khan, Engr. Jawaherul Ghani, Engr. A. Matin Chowdhury, Engr. Badrul Alam Chowdhury and Engr. Akmol Hossain have been honored for the development of Ceramic industry, chemical process equipment manufacturing, purified drinking water manufacturing, basic chemical manufacturing and development of effluent treatment process respectively.
Donation of AAS by Tetrahedron, Inc.
Tetrahedron, Inc., an Environmental services company based in the USA and Bangladesh has donated an Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS). The CEO of the Company is Dr. Waqi Alam, a BUET Chemical Engineering graduate of 1979. The donation significantly enriches the environmental laboratory of the Department.
The ceremony was attended by the Vice Chancellor of BUET. Dr. Waqi Alam is seen speaking to the audience. Teachers of the Department and Alumni from home and abroad attended the ceremony held at the lawn in front of the Departmental office.
