10th International Conference on Marine Technology (MARTEC 2016) held at BUET

A two day long (9-10 December, 2016) 10th International Conference on Marine Technology (MARTEC 2016) was organized by the Department of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering (NAME) of Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology (BUET) was held at BUET.

 
In the inaugural Ceremony, Honorable Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh have graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Prof. Dr. Saiful Islam, Honorable Vice-Chancellor of BUET and Mr. Trevor Blakeley, Chief Executive Officer of the Royal Institution of Naval Architects (RINA), UK were present as special guest and Guest of Honor respectively. Prof. Dr. Md. Sadiqul Baree, Chairman, Organizing Committee, Prof. Dr. Goutam Kumar Saha, Head of the Department and Prof. Dr. M. Rafiqul Islam, Organizing Secretary of MARTEC 2016 also spoke in the occasion.
 

In the closing Ceremony, Architect Yeafesh Osman, Honorable Minister for Science and Technology, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Prof. Dr. Saiful Islam, Honorable Vice-Chancellor of BUET and Prof. Dr. Kazuhiko Hasegawa, Osaka University, Japan were present as special guest and Guest of Honor respectively. Prof. Dr. Md. Sadiqul Baree, Chairman, Organizing Committee, Prof. Dr. Goutam Kumar Saha, Head of the Department and Prof. Dr. Mashud Karim, Chairman, Technical Committee of MARTEC 2016 also spoke in the occasion.
 
In MARTEC 2016 about 150 researchers from all over the world including speakers from UK, Japan, Turkey, Malaysia, Indonesia, India, Taiwan and Bangladesh gathered to deliver their research outcomes in the field of Marine Technology in one Keynote Session and twelve parallel technical sessions. More than 80 technical papers presented at the conference for creating an international forum for sharing their research findings with each other.
 

In addition, an International Student Conference on Marine Technology (ISCMART 2016) presented along with MARTEC 2016. About 25 research papers presented in this event. The winners of Model Ship Propulsion Competition (MSPC 2016) held earlier in November 2016, Memento for the Sponsors also handed over to the respective recipients and sponsors in the closing ceremony of the event.
 

This year, the theme of the conference was ‘Enhancing Shipbuilding and Blue Economy through Research, Innovation and Collaboration’. It is believed that the contributions from the conference will be highly effective in promoting blue economy for Bangladesh and in the region.
