Training Program on Road Safety and Good Driving Practices
Accident Research Institute (ARI) of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) organized a day long Heavy Vehicle Driversâ€™ Training Program on Road Safety and Good Driving Practices (Module -10) on 22 May 2008 at, Mymensingh. The program was conducted at the Regional Training Centre of the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) in Mymensingh.
Professor Dr. A.M.M. Shafiullah, Vice Chancellor, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) was present as the Chief Guest. Engr. Md. Rahmatullah, Chairman, Instituton of Engineers Bangladesh (IEB), Mymensingh Centre presided over the inaugural ceremony. Begum Yesmin Afsana, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Mymensingh was also present as Special Guest. The function was also addressed by A. N. M. Saleh, Associate Professor, Department of Psychology, University of Rajshahi and Member, National Road Safety Council (NRSC). Professor Dr. Md. Mazharul Hoque presented the Keynote speech.
About 250 people attended the inaugural ceremony including 112 drivers, Teachers and Cadets of the Bangladesh National Cadet Corps (BNCC), transport workers and owners and leaders of their respective associations, local representatives and elites, members of the police and other stakeholders. Prof. Dr. Md. Shamsul Hoque of BUET, Prof. Dr. Md. Mazharul Hoque and Md. Ashrafuzzaman, Assistant Director, BRTA, Mymensingh were present as resource persons and delivered lectures to the participating drivers.
The training program was followed by a road safety rally which paraded the main city streets in raising mass awareness among the city dwellers. The rally included the participating drivers, Teachers and Cadets of BNCC, training resource persons, transport workers, local leaders and others.
