Biomedical Engineering Centre:
Bangladesh is a country of 130 million people. More than 600 medical centers including Medical College Hospitals and Health Complexes are functioning with sophisticated electro-medical equipment. The equipment demands safe operation, maintenance, monitoring, repair and development. Sound maintenance is an essential part of the return on the investment of health care equipment . Expensive but out of order equipment hampers treatment of patients. But there is no institution in the country to train people who can shoulder the responsibility of maintenance and repair of medical equipment. Thus, it is necessary to train engineering graduates and technical persons who are working in the field. To provide an opportunity for higher training in maintenance, operation, management and development of medical equipment , the Biomedical Engineering Centre has been established at BUET. The Center has already set up a Biomedical Laboratory for this purpose.
