Great Achievement of the Students of CSE Department, BUET in ITEE Contest
A contest titled ITEE (Information Technology Engineers Examination) was organized jointly by the Ministry of Science and Information & Communication Technology (MOSICT), Government of the Peoples Republic of Bangladesh and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel on October 30, 2010 to test the skill of the ICT students and young ICT employees of Bangladesh. Although held for the first time in this country, the event triggered a lot of enthusiasm among the students of the department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) of this university. The result of the contest was even more impressive. The pass rate in Bangladesh was higher than the average pass rate in Japan. Notably, CSE department of BUET had both the highest number of participants and the highest average score. The first prize of a “1-week study tour to Japan” was won by Mr. Shahriar Rouf, a student of the department of CSE, BUET. The second prize of “Sony Vaio Laptop” was won by Mr. Md. Mahbubul Hasan, another student of the same department. Out of the top 20 positions, 17 were secured by the students of CSE department, BUET. The department also had the glory of highest pass rate. A total of 239 university students and 30 ICT employees participated in the contest.
A prize-award ceremony was held after the contest in the same venue. Architect Yeafes Osman, honorable State Minister of MOSICT, Government of the Peoples Republic of Bangladesh graced the occasion as Chief Guest. H. E. Mr. Tamotsu Shinotsuka, Ambassador, Embassy of Japan in Bangladesh attended at the event as the Special Guest. The program was chaired by Dr. Takao Toda, Resident Representative of JICA Bangladesh Office. The guests expressed satisfaction for the fact that the quality of ICT skills of Bangladesh is comparable to that of Japan. ITEE is a national examination for ICT professionals in Japan. Over years, it has solidified its position, reliability and drawn a large number of candidates (500-600 thousand people) in Japan. Due to the academic rigor and acceptance as a top notch certification, it has spread beyond the border of Japan to other Asian countries. ITEE has been introduced in 12 Asian countries till now. However no other country could achieve such a high pass rate in the very first contest of ITEE as Bangladesh did. All the guests hailed the performance achieved by the participants specially the students of CSE Department, BUET.
JICA committed to organize this contest regularly and to expand it to all the divisions for the promotion of ITEE and further human resource development of ICT sector in Bangladesh.
